چکیده

A sample of Eu-activated lutetium sesquioxide transparent ceramic has been investigated by combined scintillation and thermoluminescence excited by prolonged gamma-ray irradiation. The thermoluminescence glow curve partially confirms and extends a previous model for afterglow following pulsed X-ray excitation. The initial concentration of hole traps, tentatively attributed to anion Frenkel defects in thermodynamic equilibrium, is found to be substantially augmented by reversible radiation damage. r 2003 Elsevier B.V. Afterglow, low-temperature radioluminescence and thermoluminescence of Lu2O3:Eu ceramic scintillators

Comparison of thermoluminescence (TL) and scintillation light outputs with continuous gamma-ray excitation reveals that the concentration of deep hole traps in ceramic Lu2O3:Eu, tentatively attributed to anion Frenkel defects, is enhanced by reversible radiation damage. Shallow electron and hole traps are tentatively attributed to surface states at grain boundaries. Electrons in shallow traps s...

Suppression of afterglow in CsI:Tl by codoping with Eu—II: Theoretical model

The mechanism for afterglow suppression in codoped CsI:Tl,Eu reported in the preceding paper was investigated by combined radioluminescence and thermoluminescence experiments. Model rate equations informed by these experiments were employed to simulate afterglow. It was found that codoping with europium introduces deep electron traps, with room-temperature glow peaks, that effectively scavenge ...

Ion size effects on thermoluminescence of terbium and europium doped magnesium orthosilicate

Thermoluminescence (TL) and radioluminescence (RL) are reported over the temperature range 25–673 K from MgSiO4:Tb and MgSiO4:Eu. The dominant signals arise from the transitions within the Rare Earth (RE) dopants, with limited intensity from intrinsic or host defect sites. The Tb and Eu ions distort the lattice and alter the stability of the TL sites and the peak TL temperature scales with the ...

Radioluminescence of red-emitting Eu-doped phosphors for fiberoptic dosimetry.

Fiberoptic dosimetry (FOD) technique has become an attractive method for real-time dosimetry. Al(2)O(3):Cis one of the most used radioluminescence materials for FOD due to its high efficiency but it presents the drawback of emitting in the spectral region, where spurious luminescence is also important. Optical filtering is the simplest technique to remove spurious luminescence, but is useful wh...

Flux-Aided Synthesis of Lu2O3 and Lu2O3:Eu—Single Crystal Structure, Morphology Control and Radioluminescence Efficiency

Li₂SO₄ or (Li₂SO₄ + SiO₂)-mixture fluxes were used to prepare a Lu₂O₃:Eu powder phosphor as well as an undoped Lu₂O₃ utilizing commercial lutetia and europia as starting reagents. SEM images showed that the fabricated powders were non-agglomerated and the particles sizes varied from single microns to tens of micrometers depending largely on the flux composition rather than the oxide(s)-to-flux ...
